Margaret Anne "Peggy" McDermott


Margaret Anne "Peggy" (O'Neill) McDermott, 88, of Saddle Brook, NJ formerly of Whiting passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Glinsk, County Galway, Ireland, she immigrated to America in 1950.  After meeting her beloved husband, John at an Irish dance in NYC, they began building their life together in Astoria, NY and eventually moved with their four children to Saddle Brook in 1975.  A faithful parishioner for 30 years of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church in Saddle Brook, she was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and truly exemplified living a Christian life.  She was also a former parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting.  Margaret will be remembered as gentle, kind and a selfless caregiver.

Beloved wife of the late John McDermott.  Loving and devoted mother of Mary Anne Mc Dermott and husband Tom Duffy of Hewitt, Eileen Caron and husband John of Dumont, Sean McDermott and wife Jacqueline of Mahwah and Neil McDermott and wife Lisa of Saddle Brook.  Cherished grandmother of Tracey Salafia and fiancé John Roesch of Astoria, NY, Molly and Margaret McDermott and John Michael “Jack” McDermott.  Dearly beloved sister of Elena “Eileen” O’Neill of Whiting.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, April 27, 2017, 3-9 PM at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn.  A Funeral Mass is planned for Friday, April 28, 2017, 10:30 AM at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 488 Saddle River Road, Saddle Brook, NJ.  Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Margaret Anne to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 would be appreciated.

Eileen, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how close you were with your mom. You and your family have been through so much. I hope it helps knowing your mom & dad are together again, maybe dancing away, smiling down at everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
