Jean L. Calabrase

Jean L. (Macchi) Calabrase, 96, of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.  Born February 4, 1921 to the late Carlo and Natalia (Nulli) Macchi, she resided in Lodi, NJ for eight years before moving to East Paterson now known as Elmwood Park for 25 years.  A graduate of Gilbert Avenue School and Eastside High School, she was employed in the payroll department of Quackenbushe Department Store, Bright Star Battery Co. and Grand Union Supermarket.  After marrying her Dear Leo, who had two children Leo Jr. and Rosemarie by his first wife Carmella, Jean began to raise her family which grew to include sons, Robert and Thomas.

A faithful and active parishioner of St. Anne R.C. Church in Fair Lawn, she was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, member of the Rosary Society, Seniors, Widow’s Support Group, Shawl Ministry and past president of St. Anne Columbiettes Council 2853. 

Beloved wife of the late Leo Calabrase.  Loving and devoted mother of Robert Calabrase, Thomas Calabrase and wife Caroline, Leo Calabrase, Jr. and wife Maria and the late Rosemarie Calabrase Morone and surviving spouse Manuel.  Cherished grandmother of Maria Morone-Zotto and husband Dominic, Manny Morone, Jr., Laura Morone-Chiappetta and husband Gino, Paula Klein and husband Jeffery and Nicholas, Jennifer, Julie and Paul Calabrase.  Cherished great-grandmother of Ashlyn Grace, Cole, Alexa Rose and Chase Julian.  Dear sister of the late Robert Macchi.

The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, May 5, 2017, 4-8 PM at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ.  A Funeral Mass is planned for Saturday, May 6, 2017, 10 AM at St. Anne R.C. Church, 15-05 St. Anne Street, 15-05 St. Anne Street, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410.  Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean to St. Anne R.C. Church would be appreciated.
