It is with sadness that I have lost a friend dating back to 1976 when I first met Lloyd Ramsland. We met at a New York Rangers game at Madison Square Garden and he helped me secure seasons tickets. Though many playoff disappoints and lean years were witnessed, we shared one fantastic night on June 14, 1994 when the team won Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals versus the Vancouver Canucks. For the only time since 1940, the team skated around the ice with "The Cup." Lloyd was one of the biggest hockey addicts in the world. He attended well over 2000 NHL games. Phone conversations about hockey lasted over an hour and would always include his "that's craaazy" phrase. He flew all over the USA and Canada and saw games in every NHL city. For many years he had a streak of attending every NJ Devils-NY Rangers game ever played. Well, the teams played a neutral site game in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Halloween night in 1993. Yes, Lloyd went to the game! He attended NY Islanders games when they were born in the early 1970's. With my brother who had moved to Florida, I attended the first game that the Tampa Bay Lightning ever played in 1992 and ran into Lloyd at the game. Lloyd bled Dodger Blue and was a huge baseball fan. He spent March in Florida and attended countless baseball spring training games, often going to 2 stadiums a day for games. But he had to come back for the Rangers playoff games starting in April. I was so fortunate to attend 2 of his last hockey games with him last month when the New Jersey Junior Titans had a nice playoff run. Talking hockey trivia for 3 hours and watching the games together was the best! We both did a lot of goofy things like collecting team pocket schedules, keeping statistics from games, and getting yearbooks, programs, various player jerseys, and different types of memorabilia. Thanks for all the great memories Lloyd! My condolences to his wife Lina and family members. John Knodel
