Martha G. Wetzel

Martha G. (Gallagher) Wetzel, 92, of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away at home on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.  Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, she resided in Fair Lawn for 50 years.  A graduate of Dickinson High School, she earned a real estate and insurance license.  A faithful parishioner of St. Anne R.C. Church in Fair Lawn, she was a member of the Rosary Society and Leisure Club.  Mrs. Wetzel was also a member of the Happy Seniors of Fair Lawn.  Martha was extremely artistic and enjoyed crafts and artwork.

Prior to retiring, she was an insurance and real estate agent with her husband, Harold and they operated the Wetzel Agency in Fair Lawn for many years.

Beloved wife of 50 years of her high school sweetheart, the late Harold J. Wetzel.  Loving and devoted aunt of Barbara Chupay and husband Joseph, Susan Malone and husband Dale, Anita Zurell and Karen Wetzel.  She is also survived by 6 grandnieces, 1 grandnephew, 14 great grandnieces and grandnephews, one great great grandniece, and a Goddaughter.

The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, July 14, 2017, 4:30 – 8:30 PM at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ.  A Funeral Mass is planned for Saturday, July 15, 2017, 10:30 AM at St. Anne R.C. Church, 15-05 St. Anne Street, Fair Lawn, NJ.  Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Martha to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK  73123-1718 would be appreciated.

I would visit Martha and Harold,as a young child with my parents Dot and Gus Hansen, they played Canasta with them every week,in Fairlawn, or North Bergen were we lived. That was in the years about 1950-1955. Martha was my sponsor for confirmation, which was long ago. RIP Dear Aunt Martha.
