Alonso "Al" E. Escalante


Alonso “Al” E. Escalante, 61, of Glen Rock, NJ passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.  Born in New York City and raised in Jackson Heights, NY, he resided in Glen Rock for 25 years.  A faithful parishioner of St. Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock, he served as an Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion, was a member of the Men’s Cornerstone Group and Men’s Sharing Group, volunteered as a Boy Scout leader and attended Loyola Retreats.  His desire to help others was evident through his volunteer work as a member of the American Red Cross Disaster Team, and the Auxiliary Police and Ambulance Corps in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY.  An avid and loyal New York Giants and Glen Rock sports fan, this love of sports was instilled in his sons who he passionately supported in all their endeavors.  Al will be remembered for living his life on the principals of love, forgive, pray, his vibrant and outgoing personality but especially for his pride and unwavering support of his family and friends.

Mr. Escalante was a sales representative with Motorola in Glen Rock and previously with Sears in Midland Park and Nanuet, NY.

Beloved husband of Anita (Aguis) Escalante.  Loving and devoted father of Alonso Escalante, Jr. and Michael Escalante.  Cherished son of Colombina (Guillen) and the late Emilio Escalante.  Dear brother of Alicia Escalante Polizotto.  He is also survived by a loving aunt, cousins and extended family members.

The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, October 7, 2017, 2-8 PM and Sunday, October 8, 2017, 12-6 PM at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ.  A Funeral Mass is planned for Monday, October 9, 2017, 10 AM at St. Catharine R.C. Church, 905 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ.  Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alonso to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 140 Shepherd Lane, Totowa, NJ 07512 would be appreciated.
