Jack Ryan Mattsson


Jack Ryan Mattsson, age 20, of Glen Rock, NJ, passed away Sunday, October 15th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bronx, NY, Jack was a lifelong resident of Glen Rock.  He graduated from Glen Rock High School and was a parishioner of St. Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock.  He had just finished his first year at James Madison University in Virginia when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on Father’s Day of 2016.  He enjoyed playing golf, heading to Citi Field to cheer on the Mets, watching Game of Thrones, making quick cash on the slots and roulette table. Spending time with his friends and family was a vital source of support for him during difficult days. Jack was an introspective, caring, and intelligent person with a quick wit that delighted those around him.

Cherished son of Rudy and Maureen (Lynch) Mattsson.  Loving brother of Erik Mattsson.  Beloved grandson of Mary and the late James Lynch and the late Erik and Sirkka Mattsson.  He is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday and Friday, October 19 & 20, 2017, 4-8 pm at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ, 201-797-3500, www.vpfairlawn.com.  A Funeral Mass is planned for Saturday, October 21, 2017, 9:30 am at St. Catharine R.C. Church, 905 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ.  Interment will follow at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Fair Lawn, NJ

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, www.curesarcoma.org

Jack, O Jack. We will truly miss your sense of humor and nicknames you gave everyone! My world is saddened, but my mind is at ease knowing that now Jack, you will not be in pain and wonder what will happened next. You are the bravest young man I know. Be at Peace Jack, for we love you so.
