William C. Malone

William C. Malone of Glen Rock, NJ.  My name is Beverly Malone.  My husband Bill, my dearest friend and companion for 48 years, died on March 13, 2018.

Bill and his late sister Barbara were raised by their loving parents, Anita and William, in Union City, NJ.  Their mom was a fantastic baker, a skill passed on to her daughter.  To this day, our family raves about fairy pie, Christmas cookies, lemon bars, and Bill’s all-time favorite – mocha layer cake.

Bill attended Emerson High, where he played on the school’s winning basketball team.  Upon graduation, he dabbled in college until he joined the Army in 1953.  After his military service, Bill returned to college briefly and then entered the business world.  He had a diverse career, mainly in providing goods and services to police and fire departments nationwide.

Bill and I met in 1965 as a consequence of the blackout that blanketed the East Coast.  We were friends for five years before we married in 1970.  During our exchange of vows, my about-to-be husband began to laugh uncontrollably.  Some said it was nerves.  He said it was my quivering lower lip.  That’s my Bill!

A few years into our marriage, Bill decided to pursue his college degree.  Fourteen years later, he graduated cum laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  It was one of his proudest achievements.

We were not blessed with children. However, thanks to Bill’s sister and her husband Tom, we have four wonderful, supportive nephews: Tom, Bob, Dave, and Rich Turner; and four great-nephews: Brendan, Zach, Nic, and Will.  We also have the love and support of Rich’s wife, Christine Turner, and my sister, Dolores Neureiter, upon whom I relied heavily during the last months of Bill’s life.

Bill and I had a solid marriage that grew stronger with the passage of time.  The inscription in my wedding ring reads, “No one is more loved.”  How true these words were, and still are.  Thank you, sweetheart, for loving me so much.  Sleep in peace, my love.

The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, March 18, 2018, 2-7 pm at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ.  A funeral service is planned for Monday, March 19, 2018, 9:30 am at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 or the Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481 would be appreciated.
