Raymond A. Mayer

Raymond A. Mayer, 89, of Rutherford, NJ passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018.  Born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, he resided in Hoboken for 15 years before moving to Rutherford over 50 years ago.  He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church in Hoboken.  An avid coin collector, Ray was passionate about cooking and woodworking and was a skilled domino, backgammon and chess player.  In his earlier days, he enjoyed a round of golf and deep sea fishing with his fishing club.

Without his family’s consent to join the U.S. military, he ventured out on his own.  A firm believer in education and hard work, Ray returned to William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City, later in life, to earn his high school diploma and went on to graduate from Rutgers University in Newark with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

He was a self-employed accountant for many years.

Beloved husband of nearly 70 years of the late Alverna Mayer.  Loving and devoted father of Suzanne Mayers-Evans (John), Raymond Mayer (Joell) and the late Cheryl Rose (Steve).  Cherished grandfather of Megan Rizzuto (Anthony), Jessica Myers (Joseph), Raymond Mayer (Cristina) and Jennie Baucom(Matthew).  Adored great-grandfather of seven.  Dear brother of the late Dorothy Bradley, Elizabeth Farrel and Marie McCoy.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass is planned for Saturday, August 4, 2018, 11 am at St. Catharine R.C. Church, 905 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Raymond to the Valley Hospital Foundation, 223 North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 would be appreciated.  Please write “restricted to Valley Hospice” in the memo section of the check.
