Martin Collins

Martin Collins, age 80, of Palisades Park, NJ passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018.  Born and raised in Galway, Ireland, he had been a devoted altar boy, track star, and award-winning writer immigrating to the United States at the age of 17.  He resided in the Bronx, NY before settling in Palisades Park 40 years ago.  A veteran, Martin proudly served his country in the United States Army's 101st Infantry.  He was a parishioner of St. Michael R.C. Church in Palisades Park.   An accomplished and talented athlete, he was a star hurler with the Galway hurling team in Ireland.

Martin was a loyal, steadfast friend to many and will be sorely missed by all who loved him.

Prior to retiring in 2003, he was employed as a custodian with the New York Board of Education for 40 years.

Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Smith) Collins. Loving and devoted father of James Collins and wife Tracy, Kevin Collins and wife Lori and Tara Trofa and husband Frank.  Cherished grandfather of Elizabeth, Deanna, Melissa, and Madelyn, and caring brother of Patrick Collins.  He is pre-deceased by his loving brothers James, Thomas, and John-Joe Collins and his inseparable canine sidekick, Oscar.

The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, October 3, 2018, 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm at Vander Plaat­ Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ.  A Funeral Mass is planned for Thursday, October 4, 2018, 10:30 AM at St. Anne R.C. Church, 15-05 St. Anne Street, Fair Lawn, NJ.  Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
