Theodore "Ted" Helder


Theodore J. Helder, age 85, of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019.  Born and raised in Jember, Indonesia, he immigrated to the US via The Netherlands in 1958, settling in Fair Lawn in 1961.  Mr. Helder earned an Associate’s Degree from the Newark College of Engineering now known as NJIT.  A faithful parishioner of St. Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock, he was a member of the choir.  An avid traveler, he enjoyed bowling and gardening.  Ted will be remembered as a devoted family man and the ultimate food connoisseur.

Prior to retiring in 1998, he was a design engineer with Howmedica Osteonics Corp. in Rutherford.

Beloved husband of Louise (Wanitschek) Helder.  Loving and devoted father of John Helder and wife Deborah, Carl Helder and wife Apryl, Christina Amato and husband Justin and Frederick Helder and wife Caitlin.  Cherished grandfather of Alexandra, Gabrielle, Nicole, Lauren, Isabelle, Raymond and Josephine.  Dear brother of Rudolf Helder, William Steendam and Irene Meynhardt.

The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, June 3, 2019, 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 4, 2019, 10 am at St. Catharine R.C. Church, 905 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ.  Interment will follow at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Fair Lawn.
