Leonard Azzarone


Leonard Azzarone, age 67, of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Jersey City and raised in Saddle Brook, he resided in Fair Lawn for 43 years.  Prior to retiring in 2006, he served as a police officer with the Township of Saddle Brook for 30 years.  Actively involved in the betterment of his community. Leonard was a member of P.B.A. Local 102 and served as a community relations liaison through programs such as D.A.R.E. and Saddle Brook TV.  Always active, he enjoyed motorcycle riding, computers and tech gadgets.  He was also a car enthusiast who was especially fond of Corvettes.

Beloved and devoted husband of Deborah (Pomeroy) Azzarone.  Loving father of Amanda Azzarone and Elizabeth Popiolek and husband Kyle.  Cherished grandfather of Nicholas and Mia Popiolek. 

The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, September 20, 2020, 2-5 pm with a 4 pm service at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ.  Cremation will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leonard to The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306, tunnel2towers.org would be appreciated.

to the Azzarone family--------- I am truly sorry to hear about the passing of Lenny. I remember him going back in 1972 when we meet in Bergen Community College were both of us had several of the same classes. his wish was to be a police officer first on Hackensack PD then on Saddle Brook. from what I remember he was a friendly and great guy and sad to see about his passing. may he be with the dear lord.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to Debbie and her family at the loss of so dear a husband, father, grandfather, community leader and friend. My deepest condolences to the Azzarone family. Lenny was so helpful to me many years ago when I needed help with a HS project. I will never forget his kindness, patience, and generosity. Lenny, you made a positive difference in the lives of so many. Rest in peace.
