Jo-Nelle D. Long



Jo-Nelle D. Long (Desmond)., 90, of Allendale, NJ passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020.  Born in Big Stone Gap, VA she was raised in Virginia and resided in Lexington, KY, New York City and Fair Lawn, NJ prior to settling in Allendale where she resided for 54 years.  A graduate of NYU, she received her Master’s Degree in costume history. Jo-Nelle was a researcher for 33 years at the American Wing in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and was a volunteer at The Hermitage in Ho Ho Kus for many years. She was a member of the Costume Society of America. An avid artist who loved animals, Mrs. Long enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, tai-chi and crossword puzzles.  Jo-Nelle’s greatest joy in life was spending quality time with her family.

Prior to retiring, she was a self-employed Art Historian for many years.    

Beloved wife of 55 years of the late Walter D. Long.  Loving and devoted mother of Donna Long-La Tourette and husband Robert Heffernan, Steven Long and wife Luisa and Robert Long.  Cherished grandmother of Gabrielle Kulik and husband Jacob, Anna La Tourette and Austin William Long.  Adored great grandmother of Jacob William and Benjamin Walter Kulik.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jo-Nelle may be made to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge Inc., 2 Shelter Lane Oakland, NJ 07436.
