Richard A. Ardito


Richard A. Ardito of Saddle Brook passed away peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2020, at the age of 73.  Mr. Ardito was born in Jersey City to Harold and Emma Ardito, raised in Union City and was a resident of Saddle Brook for 46 years.

Richard held a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education and a Master’s Degree in English from Seton Hall University.  He also received a Fellowship in the teaching of journalism from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  Before retiring, Richard was a beloved teacher at Emerson High School in Union City for 40 years.  While there he was Faculty Advisor to the Drama Club, Coordinator of the Road to College Program, Coordinator of the Gifted and Talented Program, Coach of the Academic Decathlon Academic Bowl Team, Chairman of the City-wide Faculty Council, School Newspaper Advisor and Junior Varsity baseball coach.  Richard was also an Associate Professor at Hudson County Community College teaching various levels of ESL courses and an Adjunct Professor at Bergen Community College teaching Communications and Writing courses.

He was an avid reader, a lifelong Yankee fan, he enjoyed working on his stained glass crafts, loved coaching Little League, was an Usher and Lector at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Saddle Brook, a member of the Maywood Men’s Club, Vice President of the Father’s Club of Bergen Catholic High School and a member of the Bergen Catholic High School Steering Committee for the Middle States Evaluation.

Richard is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Louise (nee Blaskewic) of 49 years, his devoted children, daughter Natalie Nashold and her husband Michael, son Richard B. Ardito and his wife Stephanie and the loves of his life, grandchildren Ethan, Hannah, Henry and Lucy.  He is also survived by his sister, Joan Pedace, and nieces Jacqueline and Jennifer and family.

Friends remember Richard as a sincere, kind, caring man who was interested in everything and enjoyed talking to everyone – at length.  His family remembers him as a caring husband, loving father, and delighted grandfather.  And he loved his vacations in Wildwood each summer with the entire family.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, December 18, 2020, 4 – 8pm at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home Inc., 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410, 201-797-3500.  A Funeral Mass is planned for Saturday, December 19, 2020, 10:00am at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 488 Saddle River Road, Saddle Brook, NJ 07663. Entombment will be private.
