TO MY LOVING DAD: thank you for all the love and kindness, and all the concern and understanding you bestowed upon me your entire life. You were always there for me when things went wrong and always able to fix up my messes. I always confided in you and valued your advice and direction. I'll always remember our many trips to Yankee Stadium; the doubleheaders on Sunday, and great times we had at all those day and night games. I truly believe it inspired my passion for baseball in life and i treasured the common ground that it instilled between us for the rest of our life together. I will always cherish the memories of our yearly summer family vacations at Wildwood and remember how much fun we had .My best memories come from our house in Riverside Paterson and that wonderful backyard ! That great two-family house provided the core for weekly family gatherings with all our aunts and uncles and loving cousins. i could go on here, dad, forever with memories and attributes, but let me finish succinctly and poignantly with this final thought.::: As you did love nature sincerely, you were a particular fan of the cardinal,a magnificent bird with a brilliant red appearance unlike any other. And you always pointed them out to me in that beautiful backyard of ours, acquainting me with their unique and resounding calls which i now know by heart, telling me with conviction that they always travel in pairs; male and female....Well, now i will think of you always when i see that pair of cardinals that resides in my own backyard, and even if i don't see them i can recognize their calls and know it's you saying "Hi Rick!" i'll always love you, dad!
Grandpa, I have so many great memories to look back on. I remember living downstairs from you in the house in Paterson and how I would always go upstairs to visit with you and grandma Jo. I was so happy going upstairs to spend time with you and grandma. I remember every Thanksgiving how I would come upstairs to watch the parade on tv with you. I was so fortunate growing up, having you live upstairs from me and getting to see you every day. I also remember what a great bowler you were and how you would always ask me about how I was doing bowling after school with my friends and sometimes you would come to watch me bowl. I will miss you very much and will always look back on all of my memories of the time I got to spend with you.
Jeff Algera
Obe, what can I say? You were in my life since I was 15, when I first dated Rick. We've shared so many happy times together as a family; holidays, trips (I remember when you and Jo took me and Rick to Disney). You were a wonderful father and father-in-law, always "fixing" the damages downstairs in our apartment, as a result of the energy of your beloved grandchildren, Jeff and Jaclyn. I remember coming upstairs for tea and dessert after dinner, which was always a must for you. It was a real family experience and wonderful memories. Also, I remember the many times you took us to dinner with Jo. I fondly remember our trips to the Golden Steer and Hanover Trails for lobster (your favorite). You were Mr. Fix It around the house, always keeping busy when you weren't working or bowling. I remember what an artist you were. I also remember our card game "count your cards" played Saturday nights. Lots of fun, and of course, snacks and desserts! One of my first memories of you is when Rick brought me over to your place and we had the Mets game on (I was a huge fan), and how horrible they were and you were rolling around the floor, holding your stomach laughing as the infield let balls roll between their legs attempting to stop them and how upset I was being a fan. (Rick was also egging this on). Once we lost Jo (your wife and Rick's mother), you ate dinner downstairs with us and I remember the fun times at the dinner table. You were a difficult eater back then (no pizza ghen for you!). I remember how excited you were to have your grandchildren there and how well you, Jo and my parents all got along. It was such a nice, warm feeling, one that will stay within my heart forever. You are missed already and I am so glad that I was fortunate to have such a wonderful father-in-law in my life. Say hello to all up in heaven - Jo, mom, dad, and everyone else in our lives. Love you!!
