Orlando Camejo

5/23/2021

Orlando Camejo was born in Havana, Cuba on November 9, 1933, son of Esther and Miguel Angel Camejo. He died on May 23, 2021 at 87 years old at Oxford Glen in Owasso, OK.

Orlando was preceded in death by Mercedes, his loving wife of 63 years, and leaves behind their three children Orlando, Leticia, and Maria along with their respective spouses, Candice, Michael, and Bruce. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Megan, Jacqueline, Tyler, Alexa, Sarah, Julian and one great grandchild, Benjamin.

Orlando attended and graduated from Villanova University in Havana and later got his Master of Economics degree from the University of Miami.

As a young professional, Orlando traveled the world representing Cuba in the raw sugar industry. By the time he was 27, he had traveled to almost all European countries, Russia, and Japan.

In 1966, he took his family out of Cuba to Madrid, Spain escaping the Castro Communist regime. After a 4-year successful period in Spain, he brought his family to the US to fulfill his dreams for them of freedom and opportunity.

During his successful 40+ year career in finance and commodity trading, he was a respected professional and sought after by employers such as Great Western, Merrill Lynch, Revere Sugar and Otto Gerdau for management positions. This career brought relocation opportunities for him and his family to Miami, FL, Mobile, AL, New Orleans, LA, Denver, CO and finally Glen Rock, NJ where he settled until his retirement in 1998.

He enjoyed golf, watching movies, historical documentaries, Italian food, and getting together daily with his breakfast club at Panera Bread in Fair Lawn, NJ. He also loved his Mets and Giants although he was often aggravated at their performance. Typical.

Our father was an intelligent, deeply loyal, generous, and a highly moral father and husband. He always searched for justice, fairness and honesty in everything he did and always defended the underdog. He was completely devoted to his family and in return deeply loved by family and friends. We love you and miss you dad. You’ll always be in our hearts and minds.
