Richard S. Capozzi


Richard S. Capozzi, age 76, of Fair Lawn, NJ, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021.  Born, raised and graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson, he moved to Fair Lawn in 1963.  A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was a member of American Legion Post 171 of Fair Lawn.  Mr. Capozzi attended the Fair Lawn Bible Church and was a member of the Fair Lawn All-Sports Association where he volunteered countless hours coaching baseball from Tee-Ball through Little League.  A devoted family man, Richard enjoyed gardening but his greatest joy came from spending time with family.

Prior to retiring in 2002, he was a civil engineer with the New Jersey State Department of Transportation for 25 years.

Beloved husband of 50 years of Patrice (Giamongo) Capozzi.  Loving and devoted father of Kristin Detamore and husband Rev. Tom Detamore and Brian Capozzi and wife Jaclynn.  Cherished grandfather of Tyler and Andrew Detamore, Rafael Capozzi and late triplets, Abigail, Jacob and Zachary Detamore.  Dear brother of John Capozzi and the late Elaine Sydoruk.

The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, October 14, 2021, 4-8 P.M. at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ.  A funeral service will be held Friday, October 15, 2021, 10 A.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard to American Legion Post 171, 17-08 River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410 or Eleventh Hour Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 218, Rockaway, NJ 07866, would be appreciated.
